Car Accident Deaths Are On The Rise in 2015

When the numbers of deaths from car accidents are expected to rise, we take notice. Our sole purpose is to help those individuals and family members who have been affected by car accidents. So when the outlook for traffic fatalities in 2015 is set to be released, we wanted to discuss this topic rather than shy away from it.

We have previously posted blogs discussing the fact that 2014 saw a decline in the number of car accidents resulting in wrongful death.  In 2014, the Fatal Analysis Reporting (FARS) system released a record low of 1.07 traffic accident deaths per million miles traveled.  Unfortunately, ABC News reports that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is expecting to see the number of deaths in motor vehicle accidents rise in 2015.

Where are these projections coming from?

The first half of 2015 saw an estimated 16,225 deaths resulting from car crashes.  This was an increase of 8.1% when compared to the first half of 2014. The statistics are clearly not in our favor which leads drivers and many others to ask “why?”

We have seen campaign after campaign about not texting, drinking or being distracted while driving---yet our roadways seem more and more dangerous. According to the NHTSA, the reason may be because more people are now on the road and because gas prices are lower than ever. It also could be because while the campaigns for texting, drinking and distraction are all over the Internet, billboards and televisions—people are still failing to listen or to follow state law.
