New Year’s Eve 2014

10……9…….8……7…..

While 2014 is coming to a close and the countdown to the New Year is drawing near, many of us are anxious to celebrate the memories had and the excitement ahead.  Whether you are tuning into Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve Party, hitting the party circuit or heading to a friend’s home, the topic of safety comes to the forefront of all New Year’s gatherings.

New Year’s Eve alone is one of the most dangerous days/evenings on the calendar year. Last year between November 20 and December 31, drunk drivers in Georgia caused 1,143 traffic collisions that yielded 684 injuries and 18 deaths. On a national level, the statistics are alarming as far too many people have lost their lives due to poor choices when consuming alcohol.

• One person is killed every half-hour due to drunk driving.
• Each year approximately 16,000 are killed in alcohol related crashes.
• Alcohol is a factor in almost half of all traffic fatalities.
• Every other minute a person is seriously injured in an alcohol related crash.

This year, the U.S. Department of Transportation has been pushing the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign during this holiday season--- and New Year Eve is no exception. They have teamed-up with SafeRideAmerica.org to help party goers have a safe option to arrive home in one piece. The app, which is free and available on all Android or Apple devices, keep drunk drivers off the roads by allowing them to call a taxi or a friend and by identifying their location so they can be picked up safely.  Please visit their website to learn more on how this service can safe so many lives! In Metro Atlanta you can call 404-888-0887 for SafeParty Services.

Whether you are the driver or passenger, be aware of how much you have consumed. The celebration of 2014 should not end in an accident or death. From everyone at Kaine Law, we are wishing you a very safe New Year’s Eve celebration and look forward to a healthy and happy 2015!
